How to Play Teqball

Teqball is a unique and dynamic sport that combines elements of football and table tennis. The objective of the game is to keep the ball in play by using various parts of the body, on a curved table similar to a ping pong table.

The game is played between two players or two teams of two players. The players take turns hitting the ball over the net, using any part of their body except their hands and arms. The ball must be hit before it bounces twice on the table, and players must avoid letting the ball touch the ground.

The game starts with a serve, where one player serves the ball diagonally across the table. The opposing player or team then has to return the ball, keeping it in play. Players can use a variety of techniques, such as headers, volleys, and kicks, to control and direct the ball back over the net.

Scoring in teqball is similar to that of table tennis, where each successful rally counts as a point. The first player or team to reach 11 points, with a lead of at least 2 points, wins the game.

The match can be played as a best-of-three or best-of-five format, depending on the tournament or competition rules. It can also just be played for fun between a few friends!

Who Invented Teqball?

Teqball originated in Hungary and was invented by three football lovers: former professional footballer Gábor Borsányi, a Hungarian businessman György Gattyán and computer scientist Viktor Huszar. The idea stemmed from playing football on a regular table tennis table, when Borsányi had the idea to make this it's own sport.

This was all the way back in 2014, and since then Teqball has grown and expanded to become a multi-national sport enjoyed by thousands.

The Equipment Needed for Teqball

The main piece of equipment needed for teqball is a curved teqball table, which is the centrepiece of the game.

The tables are designed with a slight concave curve, which helps to guide the ball's trajectory and adds an extra challenge to the gameplay.

The tables are typically made of high-quality materials, such as carbon fibre or aluminium, and are designed to be durable and weather-resistant (so the game can be played outside). The dimensions of the table are similar to a standard ping pong table, with a length of 274 cm and a width of 152 cm. The height of the table is around 76 cm, with the net standing at a height of 15 cm.

In addition to the table, players will also need a ball. The ball should be a standard size 5 football, with a weight and bounce that is suitable for the game. We recommend that you use an official Teqball that will give you the best gameplay.

These official balls can be found at Arcanum Sports on the Teqball page.

Why Is a Teqball Table Curved?

Unlike table tennis, the main body part used when playing teqball is the feet. When the creators of teqball used to play on a regular table tennis table all those years ago, the ball would often bounce a bit too high to be easily controlled.

When brainstorming on how to make the game more enjoyable, the idea was had to make each side of the table curve downwards toward the floor. This way, the natural trajectory of the ball is down on to the players feet.

This idea has made teqball much easier to play, especially for kids and people with less experience in playing football.

The Benefits of Playing Teqball

Teqball isn't just a fun sport, but one that can help develop any football player. When playing Teqball, players are constantly improving their touch and control in order to keep a rally going. This can help footballers improve their technique at any level.

Another significant benefit of teqball is its social aspect. The sport can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels, making it an excellent choice for social gatherings, team-building exercises, and any school or football club. The competitive nature of the game also encourages players to work on their skills and strive for improvement.

Many professional teams and national associations have already incorporated a teqball table into their training facilities to support the development of their players in a fun way.
